Student Teachers
In order to join the Tiger Paws Program, students are required to take one semester of Child Development. While taking Child Development, students learn the necessary information on how children develop from conception through birth and beyond.
Also, students are educated on the abilites and learning patterns of preschool age children. Students then sign up for the Child Care Services class either the Spring Semester of their Sophomore or Junior year. After registration, a list is compiled of those interested in taking Tiger Paws. Then, Mrs. George finalizes those who are accepted into the course.
Due to the nature of the course, students are expected to be extremely positive role models, have great attendance, be respectful, and have an innate passion for working with children.
The Tiger Paws Classroom is treated as a "job" for the student teachers. They are not paid in monetary amounts, but rather in GRADES. Their grade will directly reflect their dedication and involvement in the Tiger Paws Program.
Students get a 100% REAL glimpse at what a preschool center is like. If someone does not show up for "work"(class), everyone has to cover and uphold the consistent schedule of the daily events.
This definitely gives the student teachers a good glimpse of how we are all an integral piece of the teamwork puzzle. If one piece of the puzzle is missing, the picture is incomplete.
It is the hopes of Mrs. George that the students know their importance and how their hard work is pertinent on a daily basis.
